Go-Karting Catching On

Following the introduction of Formula 1 racing, go-karting is fast catching on among local racing aspirants and enthusiasts alike.
The good turnouts at the Fast Track Speedzone in Sungai Penchala, situated next to the Lebuhraya Damansara-Puchong, during weekends testify to the growing popularity of the sport.
Even corporate bodies have taken to the sport. Companies have also been holding their family days at the track.
The recent Azure Challenge go-kartchampionship, organized by Azure Technologies (M) Sdn Bhd (ATMSB), the distributor for IBM products, was one such event. More than 100 IBM dealers and members of the press attended it.
However, first-timers quickly found out that handlind go-kart was not as easy as it seemed. It requires fitness, skills and strength. Most of the participants were not seasoned go-karters but they still had a whale of a time racing each other.
ATMSB general manager C.M. Woon said it wa the first time the company had held such event for its dealers.
"We want to create a family environment for our dealers and the go-kart challengewas the best option we had," Woon pointed out.
There were a total of 15 heats, with 10 participants competing in each heat. The top 10 finishers advanced to the finals.
Goh Choon Hong of Trisilco IT Sdn Bhd emerged as the champion.
Appril Neoh of IBM finished second while Liew Yin How of NCSI (M) Sdn Bhd ended third. The winners received a throphy and a jacket from Woon
